Queer Creator Feature: Cody Goodman

For our first Pride creator feature, I’m excited to highlight Cody Goodman, also known as Crash, a gay writer from Western New York who uses he/him pronouns and creates fanfiction inspired by two worlds that helped shape him creatively: Vampire: The Masquerade and Black Veil Brides.

Cody’s ongoing project, Black Veil Brides: Blood and Salt, is a crossover fanfiction currently available on Archive of Our Own. The story follows the band Black Veil Brides after they are reluctantly turned into vampires. Along the way, they meet a young vampire named Peter and his Nosferatu boyfriend, Eddy the Cat, who help them uncover the mystery of who turned them and why.

For Cody, this project is more than just a fun creative outlet. He discovered Vampire: The Masquerade through the show L.A. by Night during a difficult period in his life, and both the game and the show helped him through that time. Later, he found Black Veil Brides and became instantly hooked. When he saw people joking online about the lead singer looking like a vampire, the pieces clicked into place, and the story began.

His mission with this project is to connect two communities he loves: the Vampire: The Masquerade community and the Black Veil Brides fandom. As Cody puts it, “We are not alone in the dark so long as we have each other.”
