Behind the Starr-Verse: A Reintroduction (and Some Proper Lighting)

If you’ve been paying attention to the grid lately, you might have noticed a slight shift. The bathroom mirror selfies took a temporary hiatus this week so I could step in front of some actual studio lights. (If you’re curious about the setup, it’s a classic Rembrandt lighting technique—a 45-degree angle light that creates that moody triangle of illumination. You’re welcome, fellow photo nerds.)

But the change in lighting also felt like the perfect time to shed some light on who is actually behind the camera. Over the last few days, over a thousand new people have decided to hit that “Follow” button. First of all: welcome. It is amazing to have you here. Second of all: I figured it was time to properly introduce myself, outline exactly what the Starr-Verse actually is, and warn you about the sheer amount of chaos you’ve just signed up for.

By Day: Dissecting the English Language

When I’m not setting up LED panels or arguing with people on X about basic civic policy, I am a student majoring in English & Comparative Literature, focusing on creative writing. For those wondering what that actually entails, it mostly means I spend an alarming amount of my time tearing narratives apart to see how their gears work.

I have a deep, slightly obsessive appreciation for the mechanics of language and complex word puzzles. If you ever want to see my brain light up, ask me to explain the grammatical syntax of sentences like “James while John had had had…” or the “Buffalo buffalo” paradox. I am fascinated by how words can be manipulated, twisted, and layered to create entirely new meanings. It’s a skillset that bleeds directly into everything else I do creatively.

By Night: The Dungeon Master

If there is one thing you need to know about me, it’s that I am the architect of my friends’ suffering—also known as their Dungeon Master. I currently run a modern, homebrewed Dungeons and Dragons campaign. I spend hours meticulously crafting lore, balancing combat mechanics, and building intricate scenarios, only for my players to inevitably bypass all my hard work to adopt a random goblin or blow up a building I spent three days mapping out.

Being a DM is the ultimate test of improvisational storytelling. It forces you to think on your feet, adapt to chaos, and build worlds that feel alive and responsive. If you ever see me staring blankly into space, I am probably trying to figure out the stats for a modernized mimic disguised as a vending machine.

Pixels, Nostalgia, and the Horror Aesthetic

My creative DNA is heavily spliced with the media I grew up consuming and analyzing. I am a massive fan of the golden era of RPGs and anime. Whether it’s appreciating the aesthetic brilliance of Final Fantasy 7, grinding loot in Diablo 3, or rewatching classics like Rurouni Kenshin and Sailor Moon, I draw a lot of visual inspiration from that specific intersection of fantasy and action.

But there is a darker side to the Starr-Verse, too. I have a deep love for the horror genre, the liminal dread of Backrooms lore, and the delightfully macabre. During the holidays, I occasionally channel this by designing things like horror-themed art, or dropping custom Halloween t-shirt designs. I like taking the familiar and making it just a little bit unsettling.

So, What Are We Doing Here?

The Starr-Verse and Starr Inspirations are about capturing all of these different frequencies. It’s a digital scrapbook of creativity, aesthetics, and storytelling. It’s where the high-contrast studio portraits live next to the D&D lore dumps, the grammatical deep-dives, and the occasional rant about internet logic.

To the new followers: thank you for being here. I promise to keep the lighting interesting, the stories engaging, and the content completely unpredictable.
