Thriving Thursday: Stepping Out of the Writer’s Cave

There is a massive difference between just surviving your week and actively thriving in it.

When you are juggling a heavy academic workload, building a brand, and drafting a supernatural book series, it is incredibly easy to slip into “survival mode.” You know the feeling: living entirely off caffeine, staring at a laptop screen until your eyes cross, and treating sunlight like a suggestion rather than a requirement.

But today is Thriving Thursday, and a huge part of thriving is knowing when to close the laptop and step out of the cave.

The World Beyond the Word Count

As a writer and a student, it is my default setting to live inside my own head. Constructing new worlds, analyzing classic literature, and trying to untangle plot holes takes a lot of mental RAM.

But the real world is where the inspiration actually happens. You can’t write authentic, grounded characters if you aren’t out there experiencing life yourself. Thriving means finding that balance. It means realizing that taking an afternoon to walk around the city, breathe some fresh air, and just exist isn’t a distraction from the work—it is fuel for it.

Owning Your Hard Work

The other half of thriving? Unapologetically celebrating your progress.

Whether it’s finally nailing a difficult chapter, keeping up with your reading assignments, or just maintaining your discipline in the gym when you’d rather sleep in, your hard work deserves to be acknowledged.

We talked yesterday about how consistency pays off, both mentally and physically. When you put in the hours—whether that’s at a heavy oak desk or on a weight bench—you earn the right to be proud of the results. Don’t let anyone make you feel bad for celebrating the stats you’ve leveled up.

So, get out of your own cave today. Get some sun, own your wins, and let the world see you thrive.

A Quick Housekeeping Note: The Amazon Wishlist

Before I sign off, I need to share a quick update regarding my public Amazon Wishlist.

Amazon recently announced a policy change taking effect on March 25, 2026. They are removing the option to restrict purchases from third-party sellers on shared lists. Unfortunately, this means that shipping addresses may become visible to purchasers through delivery updates and tracking information.

Obviously, privacy and physical safety have to come first, so I will be permanently deleting my public wishlist in the coming weeks before this policy change goes live.

Some of you have been incredibly sweet and asked about my birthday coming up on April 29th. If you were planning to grab something from the list to celebrate, please make sure to do so soon before the list comes down for good!

As always, your support—whether it’s sending a gift, leaving a comment, or just reading these posts—means the absolute world to me. Thank you for helping me thrive. ❤️
