Back Against the Wall (Finding Softness in a Hard World)

Mondays often feel like hitting a wall.

You wake up, and suddenly the comfort of the weekend is gone. You are faced with the cold, hard reality of deadlines, expectations, and the grind. It can feel abrasive—like leaning your bare skin against rough concrete.

But looking at these shots from the weekend, I’m reminded that resistance is actually what holds us up.

Leaning Into the Grit
I decided to keep the scruff for a few more days. There is something about the slightly rougher look that fits the mindset I’m trying to cultivate this week.

Life—like that concrete wall—is solid. It doesn’t move just because you want it to. You can either bang your head against it, or you can lean on it, find your footing, and use it as a launching pad.

Texture and Resilience
There is a contrast in these photos that I love: the human vulnerability (the freckles, the skin) against the unforgiving industrial background.

That is the balance of a successful Monday. You don’t have to become “hard” to survive a hard world. You just have to be durable. You have to be willing to stand your ground, look the obstacle in the eye, and say, “I’m still here.”

The Challenge
So if you feel like your back is against the wall today, don’t panic. Rest against it for a second. Catch your breath. Feel the texture of the challenge.

Then push off and move forward.

P.S. Helping Someone Climb Their Wall
Speaking of overcoming obstacles, we are painfully close to changing a life.

We are currently 74% funded on Christopher’s campaign ($885 raised!). He is facing a literal wall right now—the inability to work or smile due to his injury.

We need less than $400 to break that wall down for him. If you need a reason to feel powerful today, being the person who helps someone else succeed is the best motivation there is.

Zachary – glad to see the scruff is still there. Leave it a while longer, have fun with it, see how it makes you feel. I think you look sensational.
