Welcome back to the Starr-Verse for another Wellness Wednesday. We’ve had a wild week of viral chaos, climbing numbers, and a whole lot of screen time. But today, I want to talk about the exact opposite of all that.

Look at that picture. No screens, no ring lights, no notifications. Just quiet. In our current era, stillness almost feels like a luxury we can’t afford, but I’d argue it’s a biological necessity.
1. The Dopamine Trap
We are all living in a constant state of sensory overload. Your brain is processing thousands of micro-decisions a day—which email to answer, which video to scroll past, which trending audio to listen to. It is an endless IV drip of cheap dopamine. The problem is that when your brain is constantly consuming, it never actually has time to process or create.
As a writer, if I spend all my downtime scrolling, my creativity completely flatlines. The ideas for The Sterling Cross Files don’t come to me when I’m staring at a glowing rectangle; they hit me when I’m out in the trees, letting my mind wander without a leash.
2. Grounding is Not Just a Buzzword
“Touching grass” has become an internet meme, but the actual physical act of grounding is vital. When was the last time you went outside without your phone in your pocket? When was the last time you just stood in the sun for ten minutes and did absolutely nothing?
You don’t need to hike a massive mountain or go on a spiritual retreat to find wellness. Sometimes it just means standing in your backyard, feeling the actual dirt under your feet, and reminding your nervous system that the digital world is not the real world. Sunlight and fresh air are the ultimate reset buttons.
3. Defending Your Peace
This week, I challenge you to be fiercely protective of your offline time. The emails will still be there in an hour. The timeline will survive without you. You cannot show up as the main character in your life if your battery is perpetually stuck at 5%.
Give yourself permission to log off, step outside, and just exist for a little while. No output required.
Let’s Talk About It
I want to hear how you guys are unplugging this week. Drop a comment below and let me know: What is your favorite way to disconnect and recharge your mental battery? Are you reading, hitting the gym, or just finding a quiet spot outside? Let’s trade strategies.
