Happy Wednesday, Starr-Verse.

If you saw yesterday’s post, we were deep in the gritty, concrete mindset of pushing through barriers. But today, we are completely shifting gears.
There is a massive misconception about what the “creative grind” actually looks like. If you search for writing inspiration online, you’ll usually see photos of pristine, organized oak desks, a steaming cup of coffee, and someone staring pensively out a window.
I’m here to tell you that is almost never how the actual magic happens.
The Myth of the Perfect Desk
For me, creativity requires comfort. You cannot force a breakthrough when you are sitting stiffly in a chair trying to look the part of a “serious author.” Sometimes, the best thing you can do for your work is to ditch the desk, throw on some comfortable shorts, and just sit on the floor.
This spot right here—lounging on the rug in my own space—is where some of my best ideas are born. It’s a safe, unfiltered environment where I can just let my guard down and exist.

Building Worlds from the Floor Up
If you’ve been keeping up with my writing updates, you know I’m currently deep in the trenches of Book 2 of The Sterling Cross Files. Right now, I’m navigating the incredibly messy, complex, and evolving dynamic between Sterling and Az. Trying to unpack their emotional baggage and map out the tension of their relationship takes a lot out of you.
You can’t write authentic vulnerability if you aren’t in a space where you feel completely comfortable yourself. Whether I’m untangling a massive plot hole in my manuscript, or sitting cross-legged trying to dream up the lore for a mystical valley in my homebrew D&D campaign, this is where it gets done. Stripped down, completely relaxed, and just letting the imagination take over.

Finding Your Unfiltered Space
We spend so much of our week performing. We perform at the gym, we perform at work, and we put on armor to deal with the outside world.
But you need a space where you don’t have to perform. A space where you can just smile, breathe, and let your mind wander without an agenda. That is where your best art, your best ideas, and your truest self will actually show up.
